Shelli Gardner grew up in Kanab, Utah, where she married and started a family. Shortly after beginning their family, Shelli and her husband moved to Nevada, where Shelli’s husband and brother-in-law began a home construction business. During this time, Shelli and her sister discovered rubber stamping and were instantly intrigued by the hobby. As young mothers, they searched for a direct-sales company that would allow them to sell product related to the hobby they loved for a little extra income. Unable to find the right mix, Shelli decided to build her own company. She imagined creating a company that would offer a wide variety of stamp styles, high-quality accessories, ongoing commitment to customer service, and sharing the art of rubber stamping with family and friends through home workshops. Shelli envisioned that this company would work much like a family, where each independent consultant--or ‘demonstrator’--could sell product at whatever level worked best for her.
In 1988, Shelli invested her family’s savings to begin Stampin’ Up! During the first year, orders were filled from her living room. Stampin’ Up! offered rubber stamps designed by other companies initially, but soon the company began custom designing, manufacturing, and selling its own exclusive designs of rubber stamp sets and accessories. Today, Stampin’ Up! fills orders from its 28,000 square-metre home office located in Riverton, Utah. Stampin’ Up! also maintains a 3,700 square-metre manufacturing facility in Kanab, Utah.
Every year, Stampin’ Up! publishes its Idea Book & Catalogue, the pages of which introduce new stamp sets and accessories. These accessories--including papers, stamp pads, and markers--are offered in 48 colours, grouped into colour families, which takes the guess work out of making beautiful cards and scrapbook pages and offers convenience and coordination to customers and demonstrators. Currently, more than 40,000 demonstrators throughout the United States, Canada, and Australia teach the art of stamping and share their enthusiasm for stamping, scrapbooking, and card making--and now this opportunity has come to New Zealand!
Stampin’ Up!’s fresh designs, superb quality, and unique packaging (based on combining stamps in sets of coordinated images) make Stampin’ Up! a leader in the hobby and craft industry. Many stamp sets also complement other stamp sets--a concept that offers customers value and versatility.
