Happy Piece of Art

Ever get an idea when you first see something? This happened to me when I saw the Burlap and Blooms Simply Created Wreath Kit in the 2014 occasions catalog. We just repainted a part of our home and I wanted a piece of art on the wall.

Using a hot glue gun, I took the four flowers from the kit and made them according to the directions. Then I punched Basic Black Cardstock circles using the 3/4", 1-1/4", and 1-3/4" Circle Punches to make the flower centers. I made fringe using my Paper Snips and added Basic Black Neutral Designer Buttons to the flower centers. Then I flattened the five fringed floral pieces from the kit and made floral centers using Calypso Coral and Pool Party Subtle Designer Buttons (or use the Very Vintage Designer Buttons from the kit).

I painted a 16" x 20" canvas with white acrylic paint, then used a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker to outline the stems and leaves. (TIP: I first sketched them on the canvas using a pencil.) The flowers were then hot-glued in place. When I saw the MDS download called Today Starts Here, I knew I had to use it with my e-cutter for the sentiment.

And here it is on my freshly painted Smoky Slate wall! It just makes me happy each time I look at it!

And for you card makers out there, you can do this for a smaller version! I made a So Saffron flower with the 1" Circle Punch using the same directions in the kit. I was even able to use some leftover flowers from the kit. I inked the Happy Watercolor Stamp Set using Basic Black and Calypso Coral Stampin’ Write Markers. I added it all to a Whisper White card base and finished with some Basic Gray 1/4" Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon.

Choose “happy” today and create your own piece of art!

I'm super surprised Happy Watercolor was not added to the new catalog.
