Hearts of Gold

You’ve heard the phrase a million times: “You have a heart of gold.” As I was looking through the new occasions catalog, this is what kept coming to mind. All that lovely gold!!

I thought it would be fun to create a valentine that showed how pretty these products are—and even I was surprised as I put it together. The way they coordinate is amazing!

I started with Watercolor Paper and created a 4-1/4" x 8-1/2" base card (folded in half). I cut an additional 3-3/4" square focal layer. On the square, I applied a vertical layer of Gesso with a paint brush. (Stampin’ Up!’s Watercolor Paper has such a wonderful texture and the Gesso simply added a raised area for emphasis. )

Once dry, I sponged on some Gold Metallic Encore ink using a Sponge Dauber.  I cut the bigger gold heart out of a Gold Foil Sheet using my Big Shot and the Circle Card Thinlits Die.  (This Thinlits set has an adorable little heart in it!) Then I took a sheet of the Gold Fancy Foil Designer Vellum—the one with the hearts on it—and punched out another heart using the Small Heart Punch. The punch and the Thinlit hearts are perfect together! I put a Glue Dot under the tiny gold heart and adhered the vellum piece to the foil piece, then set those aside.  I stamped the sentiment from the Express Yourself Hostess Stamp Set using the Gold Metallic Encore ink, then  embossed it using Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I popped up the hearts by adhering them with Stampin’ Dimensionals . Then I cut a piece of the Gold Baker’s Twine and a section of the Gold Sequin Trim and adhered them using Mulitpurpose Liquid Glue.  Finally, I adhered the entire panel to the base using more Stampin’ Dimensionals

I love the effect I achieved by layering the gold and keeping the rest neutral. It really shows off all of the shine and shimmer. I hope that you are inspired to combine these, too! As you start to create your special valentines, don’t forget to reach for the gold!
